How Mark Kelly left their lane.
After elite cycling, Mark Kelly spent two decades in global benefits and wellbeing – and now coaches senior leaders at Ground+Air.
Mark Kelly learned about performance on a bike.
He won his first British National Cycling title in 1996 and another in 2004, collecting 23 British Championship medals across his career. He represented the Isle of Man at three Commonwealth Games and Great Britain at World and European Championships.
But elite sport also taught him something less obvious about performance: nobody can operate at maximum intensity indefinitely.
Kelly now describes serious athletic performance as a cycle of effort, recovery, adaptation and preparation for the moments that matter. It is a principle he believes working life has been much slower to understand.
After cycling, he built a second career in global employee benefits and wellbeing. Over two decades, his work took him through Zurich, Aon and Lockton and across Europe, Asia and North America, before becoming Global Head of Benefits & Wellbeing at Boston Consulting Group. At BCG, his remit spanned the systems organisations use to support people working in some of the most demanding professional environments.
In 2026, those two careers came back together.
Kelly joined Ground+Air as Managing Director and coach, working with senior leaders on what the company calls leadership readiness – the ability to meet periods of high demand with enough energy, clarity and capacity left for whatever comes next. The approach draws on elite sport, global business, coaching and human-performance science without pretending that executives are athletes.
For Kelly, the connection is simple.
High performance was never about pushing hardest for longest. It was about being ready when it mattered.
