How Nate Edwards left their lane.
Nate Edwards became one of the first recipients of The BRIT School’s Burberry Stepping Stones Bursary – and used it to take his photography further into fashion.
Nate Edwards started developing his creative practice at The BRIT School, working across photography, fashion and visual communication.
In 2023, he became one of the first two recipients of the Burberry Stepping Stones Bursary Prize, created to support graduating students from global majority backgrounds as they move into higher education and the creative industries. Edwards said the award would allow him to upgrade his equipment and progress his photography while at university. The bursary also led to experience inside Burberry’s London headquarters.
He went on to study Fashion Branding and Communication at Arts University Bournemouth, bringing photography together with a broader understanding of image-making, identity and brand. Since then, his early industry experience has included fashion work with Edeline Lee alongside his own developing photographic practice.
He is still at the beginning of that career – which is rather the point.
The interesting thing now is seeing which of those lanes he chooses not to choose between.
