Owen Wyatt

A journalist who turned media from something people consume into something industries can organise around.

The UK can no longer afford to ignore the gravity of trade. We need a deal with the EU that takes us back into the Single Market and Customs Union. I know we were told we'd had enough of experts, but geography is geography and gravity is gravity.

How Owen Wyatt left their lane.

After Sky, Reuters and CNN, Owen Wyatt joined DC Thomson in 2017 and began building new growth models around its journalism and audiences.

Owen Wyatt started out getting stories to audiences.

At Sky Sports, he produced more than 500 live broadcasts. At Reuters, he became Global Editor for Sports Video, working across more than 700 broadcast, online and mobile clients worldwide before moving into video product and commercial partnerships. At Base79, he built its news and sports operation and launched six original YouTube channels.

CNN took him further into the business around the content. He joined in 2014 to develop international distribution, content sales and out-of-home partnerships, before moving into UK advertising sales and branded content. By then, his work had shifted from producing media to understanding how audiences, products and commercial models fit together.

He joined DC Thomson in 2017.

As Managing Director of Stylist, Wyatt helped move a formerly print-led brand towards a digital model built around audience, subscriptions, events and commercial partnerships – while sharpening its purpose around championing women. He later became Chief Growth Officer, connecting DC Thomson’s media businesses with its wider ambitions around investment and sustainable growth. The Marketing Society
Energy became one of the clearest examples.

DC Thomson already had Energy Voice, its specialist energy publication, and Fifth Ring, its international B2B agency. Wyatt helped bring those capabilities into a broader proposition and led the launch of E-FWD in 2023 – a membership community designed to put energy leaders, investors, policymakers and the wider supply chain into closer conversation.

The idea is bigger than reporting on an industry. It is about using journalism, convening power and commercial infrastructure to help the people inside that industry find one another and move things forward.

That thinking now extends beyond energy. Wyatt writes Scotland Inc, a regular look at the businesses, investment and institutions driving growth across Scotland, while his wider remit at DC Thomson spans new commercial models, audiences and growth initiatives. LinkedIn
Wyatt started his career distributing stories.

Now much of his work is about building the networks around them.
