Ryan Mendy moved from institutional finance into Zilch at an early stage, before helping create a collective voice for some of the UK’s most valuable fintech scale-ups.
Ryan Mendy knows the machinery of institutional finance from the inside.
Across roles including Lehman Brothers and Goldman Sachs, he spent more than two decades working around equity fundraising, M&A and major corporate transactions in London, Munich and New York.
Then, in 2019, he entered a very different environment: Zilch, then an early-stage fintech business.
Working alongside founder Philip Belamant, Mendy supported its fundraising and growth before serving as Chief Business Officer.
That experience exposed another gap.
Britain had produced a growing group of valuable fintech scale-ups, but those companies did not always have the same collective infrastructure or policy voice as established financial institutions.
The Unicorn Council for UK Fintech was created in response, bringing scale-ups together around investment, policy and the long-term competitiveness of the sector.
Mendy spent years understanding how established finance exerts influence. He is now helping the companies challenging parts of that system develop a voice of their own.
