Dex Hunter-Torricke

A Big Tech insider who stepped outside to ask who gets to shape the future.

How Dex Hunter-Torricke left their lane.

After roles at the UN, Google, Facebook, SpaceX and Google DeepMind, Dex Hunter-Torricke left Big Tech in 2025 to build the Center for Tomorrow.

Dex Hunter-Torricke began his career at the United Nations, working in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General.

Then came Silicon Valley.

He became Google’s first executive speechwriter, working with some of the company’s most senior leaders. At Facebook, he led executive communications and worked closely with Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg. SpaceX followed, then Google DeepMind, where he led global communications and marketing as AI moved rapidly from the research lab into public life.

For years, Hunter-Torricke’s job was to help some of technology’s most influential organisations explain where the future was heading.

Increasingly, he became interested in a different question: who was getting a say in where it should head?

He left Google DeepMind in late 2025 and began building the Center for Tomorrow. The organisation launched publicly in February 2026, with a mission to widen the conversation around AI and the wider economic, political and environmental changes reshaping society.

Its starting point is that decisions affecting billions of people cannot be left to a small group of companies, policymakers or technical specialists. Research matters. Technology matters. Institutions matter. But so does creating space for more people to participate in deciding what progress is actually for.

Hunter-Torricke spent much of his career helping powerful institutions tell the story of the future.

Now he is trying to widen the number of people who get to write it.
