Bjorn Hovland

A technologist who has built across products, capital and infrastructure.

How Bjorn Hovland left their lane.

Bjorn Hovland moved from connected hardware into investing, film and finance – then brought that range back into technology infrastructure at CIQ.

Bjorn Hovland’s career has rarely stayed inside one category.

He studied mathematics, economics and statistics at St. Olaf College, alongside performing as a concert cellist. From there, he moved into product development – first at smart-home company Leeo, where his work contributed to a portfolio of more than 20 US patents across sensing, connectivity and data systems, and later at Bowers & Wilkins, leading the development of connected audio products.

The products changed. So did the job.

Hovland went on to become Partner and COO of a private family office, where he built investment infrastructure and oversaw operations for an affiliated $350 million venture fund. At the same time, he co-founded lending platform MuckerFi and quantitative hedge fund Federation Capital, while leading business and corporate development at film and television company Stampede Ventures – including a major partnership in Saudi Arabia.

Those moves took him from building products to understanding the systems around them – capital, operations, distribution and scale.

He later joined CIQ as Chief Operating Officer, leading product strategy, operations and go-to-market across its enterprise Linux, high-performance computing and cloud infrastructure portfolio. In December 2025, he was promoted to President.

CIQ is the founding commercial sponsor of Rocky Linux and builds infrastructure spanning operating systems, high-performance computing and AI orchestration. Its technologies are used by 90% of Fortune 100 companies, with more than 2.75 million active Rocky Linux instances worldwide.

Hovland has spent his career moving between the technology itself and everything required to make it work in the real world.

Now he is operating at the layer underneath almost all of it.
