Anne Glover DBE

Anne Glover started out learning how things work.

She studied metallurgy and materials science at Cambridge, followed by a Master’s in Public and Private Management at Yale, then moved into manufacturing with Cummins Engine Company and strategy consulting at Bain & Company in Boston.

The next move took her from advising businesses to backing them.

Glover joined Apax Partners in 1989 to invest in early-stage companies. One of those investments took her inside the business itself: after Virtuality Group listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1993, she became its Chief Operating Officer, working at a company developing virtual reality technology decades before it became a mainstream proposition. She later returned to investing as a business angel.

In 1997, she co-founded Amadeus Capital Partners with Hermann Hauser. Its first £50 million fund was built around emerging technologies, making Amadeus one of the first UK venture firms focused exclusively on technology.

Nearly three decades later, the firm has backed more than 200 companies and raised over $1.3 billion for investment across AI and advanced computing, health and medicine, sustainability, energy, novel materials and space.

Glover’s influence has travelled beyond the companies she backs. She has chaired both the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association and Invest Europe, sits on the Court of the Bank of England and serves on investment committees for Yale and British International Investment. She was awarded a DBE in 2025 for services to engineering and science business.

She began her career understanding materials.

She has spent the decades since deciding which technologies are built to last.
